MENDON, MI - Friday night lights is a great feeling, but something about a Saturday afternoon playoff game in Mendon, Michigan, takes it to the next level. I’m sure you saw the score from last week’s game, where a total of 153 points were scored. So, driving to this game, I thought we were going to have an offensive battle on our hands.

During warm-ups, I could tell that Mendon’s coaching staff had put an extra emphasis on defense during this week’s practices. The Hornets were flying around and delivering big hits all game long. On their first offensive play of the game, Xavior Zinsmaster got the ball and ran it 45 yards for a touchdown. The Hornets made play after play on both sides of the ball. For the second week in a row, Mendon beat Lenawee Christian 54-7!

    Play of the Game:

Early in the second quarter, Mendon got a fourth-down stop in the red zone. This set the tone for the rest of the game!

Honorable mention would be when foreign exchange student Jonas Koepcke got a HUGE sack and forced a fumble.

    Player of the Game:

Xavior Zinsmaster is my Player of the Game. He had 126 yards rushing and two touchdowns. He scored one of them, "hopping" into the end zone because his leg started to cramp up.

    Thoughts from Behind the Lens:

Mendon has a LOT of very talented offensive players. If they can keep up the defensive intensity I saw during this game, then they can really do some damage in this tournament.
