The first quarter was a little back and forth battle, but Ionia came out flat and SPS made them pay. The Shamrocks closed the quarter up 10-7 and never really looked back.
Second quarter? More of the same. The Shamrocks started letting it fly from deep and knocked down some timely threes to stretch the lead. Ionia just couldn’t get anything going offensively and struggled to lock in defensively. At the break, it was 22-11 Shamrocks.
After halftime (and a strong set from the legendary DJ Jumpsuit), SPS absolutely exploded in the third. A 34-point quarter. Brady Leonard, Charlie Thelen, and Jerryd Scheuer all connected from deep as the Shamrocks poured it on and blew the game wide open. By the end of the third, it was 56-33 and feeling out of reach. Credit to Ionia though. Ethan Wenzel went to work in the fourth. The Bulldog big man dropped 16 of his team’s 22 fourth quarter points and tried to spark something late. But it wasn’t enough. SPS stayed composed, knocked down enough shots, and closed the door on a 67-55 upset win.
Statement made…

Players of the game:
Charlie Thelen and his younger brother Tyler Thelen combined for 42 of the team’s 67 points, carrying the load in a huge performance.
