Romeo travels to Macomb Dakota | September 18th | Preview
MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI - A perfect record will be on the line Friday night as the 3-0 Romeo Bulldogs take on conference foe Macomb Dakota. Romeo enters Week 4 riding plenty of momentum after opening the season with a statement victory over Rochester Adams at Michigan Stadium. The Bulldogs have followed that up by dominating their last two opponents, shutting out Port Huron Northern in Week 2 before dismantling archrival Eisenhower 56-7 in Ike’s home opener. The Bulldogs will now look to carry that momentum into conference play against a Dakota squad that has proven it won’t go away quietly after opening the season with a loss to Division 2’s No. 1 team, Brother Rice. The Cougars responded with a Week 2 victory over Anchor Bay before surviving a Week 3 scare against Stevenson, coming away with a 30-20 victory.
Dakota’s defense delivered the biggest play of the night against Stevenson. With the Titans driving deep into Dakota territory, junior defensive end Marquis Carey (He also has a Defensive Touchdown on the year) came up with a strip-sack of the Stevenson quarterback, allowing senior defensive end AJ Arini to recover the loose ball and race 82 yards for a touchdown. The defensive score turned what could have been a potential game-winning Stevenson drive into the play that helped seal the Cougars’ 30-20 victory. That opportunistic Dakota defense will now be put to a much bigger test against a Romeo offense that has been rolling over the past two weeks.
The biggest question heading into this one is whether Dakota’s offense can hold the ball long enough to slow down a Romeo team that has quickly established itself as one of Division 1’s teams to watch. Romeo is chasing a 4-0 start, something the Bulldogs haven’t accomplished since 2021, while Dakota will look to hand Romeo its first loss of the season and make another statement in conference play. With Romeo coming in undefeated and Dakota looking to build on its momentum after a thrilling Week 3 victory, this one has all the makings of a big Week 4 conference matchup.
