Freeland High School is heading to the MHSAA final four for the first time since 2022

after defeating Ludington High School 69 to 53 Freeland came out strong at the beginning of the game against Ludington, taking control early on. The Falcons surged ahead in the first quarter, building a 17–15 lead. Tristan Comer

energized the offense early with multiple paint baskets, while Cooper Wagner’s key

scores maintained Freeland’s momentum.

Ludington kept the game close early as Williams helped pace the Orioles' offense,

knocking down several baskets to keep his team within striking distance.

Freeland’s offense remained effective in the second quarter. With Comer leading as the

focal point and reaching a game-high 10 points by halftime, Wagner added 8 more,

widening the Falcons’ advantage. Himes Jr. and Stowe contributed to Ludington, keeping the Orioles competitive. However, Freeland’s offensive rhythm proved resistant to their efforts. By halftime, Freeland held a narrow 26–23 lead.

Freeland caught fire offensively in the third quarter, creating separation from Ludington.

The Falcons outscored the Orioles 21–15 in the third period, extending their lead to

47–36 heading into the final quarter.

Carrying their third-quarter momentum, the Falcons kept control in the fourth. Freeland

posted 22 more points and held off Ludington’s late rally, securing a 69–53 quarter-final

victory. Cooper Wagner led the Falcons offensively with 22 points, while Tristan Comer finished with 20 points. Wilson Huckeby also added 12 points, helping Freeland maintain a

balanced scoring attack throughout the game.


Ludington was led by Taj Williams, who finished with 24 points, while Kyle Himes Jr had 14 points for the Orioles. Freeland’s consistent scoring and strong finish in the fourth quarter ultimately sealed the quarter-final win, sending Freeland to the Breslin Center for the MHSAA Final Four for the first time since 2022!
