The first quarter was an up-and-down affair, with both teams showing strong defensive effort. Maple City Glen Lake finished the quarter on top, 16–12, using a zone defense to keep the taller Covenant Christian players out of the paint.

In the second quarter, baskets began to fall for both teams. MCGL held a slim 30–28 lead at halftime. They came out firing in the third quarter with a 9–1 run, forcing Covenant Christian to call a timeout. Covenant settled in and attacked the free-throw line, but MCGL maintained a 49–42 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Covenant Christian came alive in the fourth, applying full-court pressure that led to key steals. The surge helped them take a 68–67 lead with 1:25 remaining. Covenant was able to regain possession late and force MCGL into the foul game, sealing a 71–69 victory.

Play of the Game – Presented by Pit Training League: Jacob Plamondon took a knee-to-knee hit and got up slowly. Covenant had the numbers heading the other way, but MCGL came up with a steal and pushed the ball ahead to a trailing Plamondon, who turned and threw down a powerful dunk.

Player of the Game: Jacob Plamondon (MCGL) may look like a football player, but he’s every bit a hooper. A true workhorse with excellent footwork around the basket, his hustle-driven game will translate well to the next level. Plamondon is committed to GVSU.

Carpenter Action Shots – Thoughts From Behind the Camera: Both teams featured smart, talented players and should be highly competitive in their respective leagues.
