HARTLAND, MI — The 2025 Grappler Gold Invitational brought together 24 of the region’s top wrestling programs at Hartland High School on Friday, and fans were treated to a full day of skill, determination, and impressive performances. Teams from across Michigan and Ohio—including Adrain, Athens Christian, Bay City John Glen, Beaverton, Brighton, Clarkston, Davison, Cass Tech, Dundee, Erie Mason, Goodrich, Hamilton, Hartland, Lowell, Martin, Perrysburg, Plainwell, Gull Lake, Gabriel Richard, Lakeshore, Traverse City Central, and Three Rivers—competed for individual titles and team honors. Perrysburg, the only Ohio team in the field, made its presence felt early, claiming multiple weight-class titles. Collin Bagdonas led the charge at 106 lbs, followed by champions Grey Burnet (126 lbs), Alex Denkins (132 lbs), Urijah Lopez (138 lbs), and Sully Karmon (144 lbs). Other wrestlers made their mark as well, including Dylan Nieuwenhuis of Plainwell (113 lbs), Jarrett Smith of Lowell (120 lbs), Trevor Boone of Lowell (157 lbs), Julius Pacheo of Davison (165 lbs), William Childs of Athens Christian (190 lbs), Bryce Morrison of Hamilton (150 lbs), Jon Golec of Goodrich (215 lbs), and Liam Samborski of Oxford (285 lbs). the day’s most eye-catching performance came from Three Rivers’ Louis Smith. Dominating the 175 lbs bracket, Smith impressed coaches and fans alike with his combination of strength, technique, and composure on the mat.
