Northview and East Lansing squared off Saturday in a highly anticipated matchup between two of Michigan’s top-ranked teams, with plenty of eyes on the neutral-site showdown. When the final horn sounded, it was Northview that walked away with a statement victory, defeating East Lansing 63–46 in a game that showcased intensity on both ends of the floor.
From the opening tip, Northview set the tone defensively, applying constant pressure and forcing East Lansing out of its offensive rhythm. The Wildcats controlled the pace of play and capitalized on key scoring runs, gradually building separation as the game progressed. Their ability to limit second-chance opportunities and contest shots proved to be a major factor, especially as East Lansing struggled to find consistent scoring outside of its top option. Despite the loss, Kelvin (KJ) Torbert Jr. delivered another standout performance for East Lansing. The junior poured in 25 points, accounting for more than half of the Trojans’ total offense. Torbert Jr. has been on an impressive scoring stretch, now posting 18 or more points in 14 consecutive games, and once again demonstrated his ability to score at all three levels under pressure.

East Lansing also received contributions from Tyree Anthony, who added eight points, but the Trojans were unable to generate enough offensive balance to keep pace with Northview’s depth and defensive discipline. The loss marked the first setback of the season for East Lansing, snapping an unbeaten run and dropping their record to 17–1. For Northview, the win served as a defining moment in their season. Improving to 13–4, the Wildcats not only picked up a quality victory but also sent a message as the postseason approaches. Beating an undefeated East Lansing squad solidified Northview’s status as one of the most dangerous teams in the state. Looking ahead, Northview will return home to host Union on Monday at 7:00 p.m., aiming to build on the momentum from Saturday’s win. East Lansing, meanwhile, will look to respond quickly as they hit the road to face DeWitt on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., seeking to bounce back and start a new streak.
